What an amazing find this series is for any reader of historical romance!
Rory MacLeod has agreed to a handfasted married to Isabel MacDonald the niece of his mortal enemy Sleat MacDonald. Sleat rejected his marriage to Rory’s sister and Rory swore revenge on this man and his family for the damage done to his family’s name. Rory will do this marriage only at the request of King James but only for the one year and one day deemed by the handfasted marriage. There will be no permanent union between these two nor their families. He is going to use Isabel to gain access to the MacDonald secrets not know that her mission in this marriage is to obtain secrets about his family for her uncle.
While Rory is planning his path of destruction on the MacDonald’s Isabel is learning what is expected of her in this marriage and becoming part of the MacLeod family who she grows to love more than her own as this family is warm and loving toward her nor cold and indifferent. She does not want this marriage anymore than Rory but she is honor bound to help her family and will do anything that is asked…even spy on her new husband. Her uncle is an evil and vindictive man who wants nothing but to bring the MacLeod family to its knees so he can take over their land and possess their wealth and using his niece he believes will accomplish this.
Try as Isabel might to not fall in love with Rory it still happens and she knows that she cannot deceive or betray him. She comes up with a plan to give her uncle the information but still save her marriage and life in the MacLeod castle. She could not more turn on Rory as her love for him is too strong.
This is the first book in a three-book series and if the other two are like this one – what a winner we have here. I am looking forward to the other two books with great anticipation and since they follow one month after another the wait won’t be long! The characters draw you in and make you unable to leave the book until every page is read and then you want to read it again!
