Morganna KilCreggar is a strong woman, who holds her emotions in check. She has sworn vengeance against the FitzHugh’s. She has transformed herself into a boy, who has a deadly aim with his weapons. She stumbles upon a wounded man, who makes her his squire. She calls herself Morgan when he asks for her name. She is shocked to learn that he is Alexander FitzHugh. Although he is not the one responsible for the deaths of her family, she knows he can lead her to the murderer. On their journey together, she is dismayed that Zander makes her feel like a woman and that she desires him most of all.
Zander FitzHugh is strong, stubborn, and a determined man. Zander stumbles upon Morganna and thinks she is a boy. He makes her his squire even though she refuses at first. He doesn’t take any disobedience from Morganna and is very harsh on her because he thinks she’s a boy in fact hurting her. When he learns of her ability with knives, he sets up challenges to earn himself more squires and servants as they travel through to his home. He becomes troubled that he has started to develop feelings for his squire. He still hasn’t realized that Morgan is in fact a female. He decides to choose himself a bride to help him get rid of his unruly thoughts towards Morgan. When he finally figures out Morgan’s secret, he is elated to realize his love is returned.
Zander and Morganna’s chemistry sparked the pages. Morganna had closed herself off emotionally so that the only thing that mattered was avenging her family. With Zander’s help, she slowly began to come out of her shell and enjoy being a woman. Their banter with each other was very amusing. Squire Morgan earned himself the adoration of many lads and lasses which provided some humorous moments as Morganna tried to figure out how to extract herself out of their grasp, so that they didn’t learn her secret. I found it vastly amusing that Zander’s brothers could tell Morgan was possibly a woman yet he could not til it was practically staring him in the face and even then he doubted. Zander and Morganna’s relationship reached a new understanding when Zander’s brother Plato made Morganna realize what she was doing to Zander in denying their relationship. After Morganna and Zander had come together, she learned the truth of the day her family was murdered and who was responsible as the villain was about to strike again to save his own hide.
LADY OF THE KNIGHT was a very emotional and at times humorous story. The hero and heroine had many depths and layers to each other that added to the emotional aspect of the story with issues you would not find in a typical romance novel. Jackie Ivie has the ability to draw you in and make you feel the story as it unfolds. I enjoyed this book, and look forward to reading another Jackie Ivie novel.
