Anastasia Whittig has been working secretly as a spy for years; she never remarried after her husband died leading a very secretive and reclusive lifestyle. She is highly intelligent and is an expert at cracking codes and is currently working on a secret experiment that would aid in the defense of women. She prefers the cloak and dagger type of lifestyle in comparison to the social whirl of Society. But all that is about to change after her friend and fellow spy, Emily is ambushed on assignment and seriously hurt, taking her off the case while she recovers. Charlie, Ana’s boss orders her to work closely with Lucas Tyler, Emily’s partner to discover who is betraying the organization. As part of the covert operation it requires Ana to step back into Society indicating her mourning period is over. As Lucas and Ana work closer together, they find themselves attracted to each other.
Lucas Tyler is a dedicated spy to his organization and for the past year he has been trying to discover the identity of the person, who they think is selling spies to the highest bidder. He takes this case very seriously and has become a personal matter for him. He does not relish working with anyone and after Emily is shot he thought himself in the clear to work solo. But as the attacks are happening more and more frequently, Lucas becomes quite concerned for Ana’s safety has she is working undercover, obtaining information for him. He is quite smitten with her spitfire ways, intuitive mind and it’s not long before Lucas wishes she were more than his working partner.
DESIRE NEVER DIES is the second novel in Jenna Petersen’s “Lady Spies Trilogy”. It is fast paced, with plenty of danger and intrigue mingled in with love and passion. Ana and Lucas, although reluctant to work together at first were a great team with chemistry that flowed between them no matter the situation. As Jenna Petersen continues to enchant her readers in this novel with her witty repertoire, and seductive story telling there was just enough underlying currents of past issues that threw up barriers as the story progressed for the characters. DESIRE NEVER DIES is a welcome addition to my bookshelves and I recommend it to anyone who likes a little danger mixed in with a touching love story.
