Gregory Bridgerton is the youngest male in his rather large family. Being such, he has learned that love definitely exists and it was just a matter of time before it would come after him as well. He imagined he knew exactly what it would be like. It would hit him like a carriage in the street, a ton of proverbial bricks. He would just know, without a doubt, when he encountered his mate. He just didn’t know when. While attending one of his brother’s house parties he is struck dumb when he sees the woman of his dreams. He is immediately enchanted and can do nothing but stare. The only problem is Miss Hermione Watson doesn’t realize Gregory is alive. She is infatuated with someone else and the gentleman in question occupies her thoughts completely.
Lady Lucinda Abernathy has been Hermione’s dearest friend for three years. After rooming together at their school for ladies they became fast friends and have been inseparable since. She is used to men hanging on Hermione as much as she is used to Hermione ignoring every man trying to win her heart. It has become tiresome watching men make fools of themselves for a woman that is just not interested. Yet, when Gregory approaches she somehow knows he is different than the rest. Hermione is in love with her father’s secretary, Mr. Edmonds, a truly unsuitable match for a daughter of quality. But, if Lucy can turn Hermione’s heart to the very suitable Mr. Bridgerton then perhaps her friend can be happy without inciting her parent’s ire. She sets herself to the task of aiding Mr. Bridgerton in winning Hermione over but in the process realizes that perhaps he is not the right man for her Hermione, but perfect for herself.
Lucy loves Gregory but Gregory loves Hermione but Hermione loves Mr. Edmonds and we’re not entirely sure where his heart lies; the perfect recipe for an entertaining novel. On the Way to the Wedding begins at the end. The prologue is actually when Gregory Bridgerton is racing as fast as he possibly can to stop a wedding in which the reader is not entirely sure of the bride’s identity. Needless to say the book starts off with a bang and doesn’t cease until the very end.
When I pick up a book written by Julia Quinn, I know immediately that I will be guaranteed an adorable story. She has a way of making the reader love her characters not just like them, Love them. She involves the reader emotionally and pulls at our romantic hearts without mercy.
ON THE WAY TO THE WEDDING was a wonderful story of infatuation, love, passion, mystery and of course another member of the famous Bridgerton clan. The characters had great chemistry and the storyline kept the reader intrigued and craving the next event. The only problem I had with this book is the fact that it is the end of the series and we will no longer be tantalized by the happenings of the ever entertaining Bridgertons. Despite my sorrow and sense of loss I have to say this was wonderful way to say goodbye.
