5 Pink Hearts

Katherine Elizabeth Pudding MacDougall is quite surprised when she is informed about being an heiress to a castle in Scotland. Being a struggling cook in New York, she leaps at the chance to investigate her new home. Arriving upon her castle she is dismayed that it is in virtual ruin. Windows are missing, the plumbing is ancient and worst of all when she asked if it was haunted she was told no. So why does she keep seeing a charming and good-looking ghost following her around? Determined to restore this castle to its former glory she devises a way to turn it into a Bed & Breakfast. When a boating accident goes awry Elizabeth is transported back in time, facing her ghost in the flesh and being pledged to him in marriage.

Duncan MacDougall is cursed, a ghost roaming around his home until one woman’s love can set him free. After years and centuries of watching his heir a parent’s be destructive and negligent in the maintenance of His Castle, he is pleasantly surprised to see Elizabeth take an active interest in the castle, the grounds and her family ancestry. One fateful boating accident changes Duncan’s well laid plans when he is forced to save her life by sending her back in time, to when he was human, and having no recollection of who she is. Can she win over his heart and secure the future for generations to come? Or will Duncan think she is daft and have her trussed up like a turkey? It’s a chance he is willing to take in order to have this curse lifted.

I really enjoyed this book. It was funny, witty and pretty darn exciting. It was action packed, and full of surprises. Duncan whether he was apparition or the warrior from his time was appealing, attractive and a viral man. There are so many moments in this book that stand out for me. Ranging from when ghost Duncan almost fainted when Elizabeth said thank you to him before he made himself known to her. Or when they were back in his time and she managed to take the family ring off, and was convinced she was a witch ready to impale her when she turn translucent before his eyes. Which by the way was pretty freaky to read and could feel her terror and amazement that she was able to do that. It also solidified to Duncan that no his new wife was not daft but saying everything in truth. Now he was left with the task of keeping her around instead of scaring her back to her time, and the funny fallout from had tears rolling down my eyes.

The secondary characters in the book were pretty comical on a whole too. They added the right blend of humour to any situation whether it was Elizabeth grabbing one of the men by the privates so she could tend her wounded husband or Rachel trying to grasp that she was transported back in time and could not understand her. Somehow, someway all the characters integrated well with each other, and when trouble is afoot and enemies try to undermine them they band together and build a strong force around their loved ones, that surely you knew defeat was inevitable.
